Ashley’s Favorite Star

Given that I have been an Usher fan since day one, this blog was a definite shoo in for blog of the day.

Masons, Alphas, and Ques Oh My

I have been having strange dreams revolving around Masons, Alphas, and Ques. For those readers that have no idea what I am talking about, these are all fraternal organizations. The only connection that I can see is that I have been involved with a member of each organization, but the last time I was involved with a Que romantically was ages ago. Anyway this is the part of the dream that was weird. I was at a step show and all of them were stepping. I can’t explain what that is in the context of this post. Go rent school daze or go to a step show. Anyway the strange thing about that was Masons don’t have step shows, at least not that I am aware of. What was even stranger was that all three groups were on stage together. What was even stranger was that they had two little boys from my church on stage with them. Weird. Very Very Weird.

Today at Greenbriar Church of Christ

This is something new I am trying out.

I am one of those people at church that always take notes during the sermon. I figured that I should do something with all of those notes so I decided to put them in my blog. Of course you are free to disagree with me, but I am going to post it here anyway. I do a lot of paraphrasing. If you want the whole sermon, you are going to have to visit the church. :-)

Topic: Ten Years in the Wrong Place
Given by: Bro. Howard Wright
Main Scripture: Ruth 1

Story synopsis: (paraphrasing) There was a famine in Bethelehem, so Naomi and her husband went to Moab, a land they were specifically ordered not to go to. They started on a sojourn which is defined as a short trip or a temporary stay. The sojourn turned into 10 years and Naomi’s husband died there. They stayed in Moab long enough for Naomi’s son’s to marry Moabite women, again something that the Israelites were forbidden to do. They also died. Naomi told her daughters-in-laws to go back to their own people, but Ruth refused to do so.

Here’s what I wrote down (said by preacher)

13 Judges
Othniel was the first judge
Samuel was the last judge

God usually caused a famine when the people sinned.
Point: What would happen if that happened today in the USA?

Spiritual famine is worse than material famine.

Sin works in little bitty steps

Luke 15
A sheep can only see for about 6 feet. A sheep gets lost 6 feet at a time.
You get lost and wander away from God one step at a time.

Joshua 23:7 & 12 warns old testament jews to “Stay away from heathens”

Elimilech(Naomi’s husband) didn’t trust God

Ephesians 4 (one lord, one faith, one baptism)
2 Cor 5:7

Mark 8:35

Went to Moab and died there

2 Cor 6:14

Romans 1

www.abstinence.net

First of all. I finished Nanowrimo!!! Whoo hoo. It took some padding, but I got it done. Yaay me. Okay on to the comment for today.

I found this site through an article that was posted on Earthlink regarding the President’s abstinence program. While I agree with the message, I am not sure if anyone is listening. Also I think it is a very bad idea to leave out any mention of birth control, because I believe that teens have the right to know the whole story. Furthermore, they are having sex anyway. While we can encourage teens to abstain from sex, it is important that those who are already active know about the contraceptive options available to them? What do you think?

Ben’s big break

Esther discovered Ben Joffe in China. You see Esther was a producer with a famous record label and she went all over the world looking for new talent. Esther was tired from a long day looking for talent so she decided to go to a club in China. Well much to her delight it was karaoke night at the club, which meant she had hit the jackpot. Esther ordered her usual Long Island Iced Tea and sat down and listened to the singers. Most of the singing was only singing in the academic sense of the word. Esther was just about to leave when she heard the most melodious sound she had ever heard. She looked up at the stage and there was this young man singing his heart out on the stage. Esther was mesmerized by his sound and was almost glued to her spot. When he finished singing, Esther went up to the young man, gave her his card, took down his phone number and the rest was history. Little did Esther know, that Ben Joffe had a strange habit. Every night at 7:00pm, Ben went around killing rats with a jackhammer. He did this very happily. Well one day Esther found out and banged her head on a wall which completely freaked her out she jumped out of the way as the roof collapsed and just as she hoped she accidently tripped and smashed her face against a rock.

Christie takes a stand.

Christie was friends with John Howard in South Africa. John Howard and Christie had gone to high school together. They were best friends in high shool, but they were always getting in trouble. When they were in South Africa they decided to stage a protest. Well much to their dismay, South Africa had been taken over by a horrible tyrant who did not beleive in free speech. As a result Chritie and John got locked in prison. Chritie tried to stand up in her cell, because when she laid down bugs began to crawl in her bed. She could not stand up because her leg hurt. Well the United Nations found out about her plight and all heck broke loose. Everyone in the United Nations bowed down to Christie because she she made a run for it and as if it were a miracle she got the money and lived the rest of her life in Israel free from persecution.
