Today at Greenbriar Church of Christ
This is something new I am trying out.
I am one of those people at church that always take notes during the sermon. I figured that I should do something with all of those notes so I decided to put them in my blog. Of course you are free to disagree with me, but I am going to post it here anyway. I do a lot of paraphrasing. If you want the whole sermon, you are going to have to visit the church.
Topic: Ten Years in the Wrong Place
Given by: Bro. Howard Wright
Main Scripture: Ruth 1
Story synopsis: (paraphrasing) There was a famine in Bethelehem, so Naomi and her husband went to Moab, a land they were specifically ordered not to go to. They started on a sojourn which is defined as a short trip or a temporary stay. The sojourn turned into 10 years and Naomi’s husband died there. They stayed in Moab long enough for Naomi’s son’s to marry Moabite women, again something that the Israelites were forbidden to do. They also died. Naomi told her daughters-in-laws to go back to their own people, but Ruth refused to do so.
Here’s what I wrote down (said by preacher)
13 Judges
Othniel was the first judge
Samuel was the last judge
God usually caused a famine when the people sinned.
Point: What would happen if that happened today in the USA?
Spiritual famine is worse than material famine.
Sin works in little bitty steps
Luke 15
A sheep can only see for about 6 feet. A sheep gets lost 6 feet at a time.
You get lost and wander away from God one step at a time.
Joshua 23:7 & 12 warns old testament jews to “Stay away from heathens”
Elimilech(Naomi’s husband) didn’t trust God
Ephesians 4 (one lord, one faith, one baptism)
2 Cor 5:7
Mark 8:35
Went to Moab and died there
2 Cor 6:14
Romans 1
