Sermon Notes from Day 3 of the Revival (religious content)
Day 3 of Spring Revival – 04/24/2007
Speaker – Bro. Gerald Lee Sr from the South Union Church of Christ
Title: Tearing down the High Places
2 Kings 18:1-8
What did Hezekiah do right?
1. Complete turnaround
2 Kings 18:4
Nehushtan – something made of copper
Joash didn’t have internal integrity needed to do what needed to be done.
For Hezekiah: God is God of All
What we do:
Lord you can be the God of All EXCEPT…
“my finances”
“my relationships”
“my entertainment”
“my future plans”
Word of God needs to work for us like a jackhammer.
Positions you need to take spirtually but you don’t because you’re scared. Joash didn’t do what he needed to do out of fear.
2. “Trust”
2 Kings 18:5
When you trust God you separate from the crowd and position yourself to be in a place where God says “there are none like these”
Psalms 20:7&8 trust
Hebrews 11:6 faith in God
Your provisions are in the path of your PURPOSE
Yield in Trust
3. Tenacity
2 Kings 18:6
Definition: The quality of being tenacious.
Not easily pulled apart
A tending to adhere to or cling especially to another substance.
function in God’s Time Frame
Keywords: “Turn-around” “Trust” “Tenacity”

Days 1 and 2 of the Spring Revival at West End Church of Christ (warning religious content)
I was so tired from yesterday that all I could do was come home and go to bed so I didn’t get to post my review of Day 1 of the Revival so I decided to combine Day 1 and Day 2.
If you missed Day 1 you really missed some good ole fashioned “Chuch”. Bro. Gerald Lee, Sr of the South Union Church of Christ in Houston Texas delivered a powerful sermon on Sunday Morning. Bro. Lee is using examples from the old testament to show how easy it is to fall away and what happens when you don’t turn 100% to God. You can order a copy of the CD by going to West End Church of Christ’s website. Be sure to ask for the 10:45AM service on 04/22/2007.
After we had a delicious meal and an abbreviated service(everyone was full and suffering from that “itis”), the Gospel Messengers and the Golden Voices(which I am a part of) sang. Then I went home and collapsed and didn’t get up until the next day.
Tonight, Bro. Lee treated us to another stirring lesson.
Notes follow (there may be misspellings here, these are old testament names after all)…
“Almost Revival”
2 Kings 12:1-3
Things Israel were guilty of at that time in their history.
1. “Follow the Leader Faith”
As long as the faithful leader was alive everything was fine. As soon as he died, all heck broke loose.(This is DeAnna’s interpretation of the lesson)
2 Kings 12:2
2 Chronicles 24:17
obesiance- acknowledgement of another’s superiority or importance (kissing butt-again, DeAnna’s interpretation)
left the house of the Lord 2 Chronicles 24:18
little personal conviction on Joash’s part. Joash needed personal dedication. He agreed to the covenant but he had no conviction. Joash was a follower not a leader.
Quote to remember: The original never tries to look like the copy.
“Personal Relationship” Good
“Leader Based Relationship” Not good
Quote to remember: It’s not the leader that causes things to happen. The people do.
Leader Based=ignorant spirit.
2. Neglecting the strongholds
2 Kings 12:3 high places not taken away
Modern high places=places where god isn’t sovreign
hidden hills, “those habits”, “practicing sins”, inappropriate relationships
New word from Bro. Lee: “shim”
Temptations
Plans; Don’t want the Lord messing with.
Are you willing to lower your dignity or your reputation to keep these habits up?
3. Surrendered the Sacred
2 Kings 12:17&18
gave holy “stuff” to Hazael
When faced with a crisis Joash doesn’t turn to God; he surrendered his sacred things.
*Probing questions*
When push comes to shove in your life, what gives way?
When the Budget Gets Tight, What Gets Cut?
When Something Exciting is happening on Sunday Morning or Sunday Evening, where do you find yourself?
When your daily schedule is tight what waits? Laundry or God?
There was also a shocking quote from a rather famous individual here, but I have to double check and make sure I get it right before I post it.
2 Kings 24:20 Zechariah was the son of Jehoiada
Joash killed the messenger.
God’s praise team is the church
(DeAnna’s addendum: In the Church of Christ, during worship everyone sings. We don’t have one choir sing and everyone listens. We also don’t have instrumental music. It’s commanded for us to sing. Read Col. 3:16 and Eph. 5:19)
That’s all for today. You can still be a part of this revival. It starts at 7:30PM (for those of you on CP time, come at 7:00). Directions are on West End’s site. I look forward to seeing you there.

10/01/2006 Sermon Notes from 6:00 PM Service and DeAnnaland updates
I can’t believe that the last thing I wrote in here was from May! I’ve been super duper busy lately. I’m still taking my classes at Kaplan which I should finish by March. I’m busy busy with church as usual. We’ve got goo gobs of Lectureship Orders to fill. Also, there’s a health fair coming up at the church on October 28, 2006 and I’m responsible for the publicity for that. There’s a blurb about the health fair on the website. Just click here: Church of Christ for more details.
Okay so on with the notes….
I didn’t catch the title of this sermon, so I’m just listing the scriptures and main points. Also, forgive my spelling. I had no clue how to spell some of these words, so they’re on here phonetically.
6:00 PM
Bro. Orpheus Heyward
10/1/2006
Col 2:6-8
The Christians at Colosse were dealing with many different doctrines.
synchronistic (Big O word for the day)
Paul highlighted the sufficiency of Christ
gnoctism-gnostic to know; claimed to have religious knowledge outside of Christ. claimed to have access to special revelation that the rest of the church didn’t have access to. Col 2:9 refutes this.
ascetics-touch not; handle not; deny natural affection of the body
judaism-bind Judaism on New Testament Worshippers
angel worship-worship of angels
They were trying to blend all of these together.
Christianity is a religion that doesn’t blend with anything.
2 Pet 2:1, 1 Cor 1:10, Acts 20, Eph. 1, Col. 1:18
conversion->conviction->contend
Many Christians are converted but not convicted so they don’t contend for the faith.
This is just a synopsis. For the whole sermon, order a CD by going here: West End Church of Christ

Sermon Notes from 4-02-2006
Bro. Orpheus Heyward
The tragedy of a misplaced preeminence.
Col. 1:18 & 3 John 9
preeminence- to hold the first place to be the priority
Tragedy-When you take the preeminence of Christ and put it on someone or something else.
Eph. 1:22&23 (all) things
Col. 3:17
Col 1:13
Reasons Christ has preeminence:
1. In Christ we have redemption.
2. Image of the Invisible God.
3. The firstborn Hebrews 1:3, John 1:1, Psalm 89:27
4. All things were created by him.
5. He is before all things.
6. He is the head of the body(church).
Preeminence misplaced in the church is an absolute tragedy.
3 John 9 & 10, 1 Peter 5
Preachers aren't hired/fired, they are received by a congregagtion
1 Cor 9
1 Sam 18:5
In the Church, there is no room for members to have preeminence.
The Church is about Jesus.

How Much Do You Love Him? by Orpheus Heyward
What follows are my notes from the sermon. This is not meant to replace the whole sermon. If you'd like to hear this sermon in its entirety you can order it by going to www.thewestender.com
How Much Do You Love Him? by Bro. Orpheus Heyward
1 Cor 3:4-7
Luke 7:36-47(main text)
notes by DeAnna Spencer
Jesus' measuring rod for the woman's love for him was her actions.
The best way to show how much you love Jesus is by what you do.
1 v. 37 The woman showed up at the house where Jesus was to get closer to Jesus
She wasn't afraid to step out from the crowd
When she knew Jesus was in the house everyone else disappeared.
2) She didn't let the other people's opinion hinder her from getting close to Jesus.
She wiped Jesus' feet with her hair. It was against Jewish custom for a woman to let her hair down for any man that wasn't her husband.
3) She used what she had for the service of Jesus. She didn't have a rag or washcloth to wipe his feet, so she used her hair.
4) She let nothing hinder her worship.
5) Don't let anyone hold your past against your future.
6) Don't get caught up in what people think.
7) You can't fool Jesus
Quote to remember: Sermons are not entertainment. Sermons are meant to provoke change.

Walking in the Light by Bro. Wesley Brown 10:45AM Service
Sermon Text. 1 John 1:5-7
5This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
7But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Basically the main idea of this sermon was to walk as a Christian should walk.
